We pride ourselves on being an ethical and supportive employer. It is important that our staff enjoy what they do and that the company puts something back into the community in which it lives and the countries it works in.

Aquatera is based in Stromness, at the heart of Orkney’s thriving renewables industry. The majority of Aquatera’s staff are based in the Stromness headquarters, with several staff located elsewhere around the world including in offices in Ireland, the Canary Islands and Singapore.

Aquatera has a particular interest in working with experienced professionals who are recognised as experts in their fields and who would relish the opportunity to work collaboratively within a team on frontier and groundbreaking projects. We also make a concerted effort to bring new talent into the renewable energy sector in Orkney. We have steadily increased our commitment to support young people into the industry.

The company is also interested in collaborators around the world. If you have broad based expertise in environmental and/or technology areas and you would be interested in working within our network, why not contact us? Aquatera is particularly interested in forming new relationships with associates and partners located around the world.

Community development and volunteering

We are constantly involved in a variety of community activities, ranging from participation in community events (local raft races, fundraising, beach clean ups etc.) to sponsorship of groups, festivals and events. We support local upcoming talent through sponsorship of folk musicians and the established Orkney Folk Festival. We have supported local adult literacy services through provision of free teaching space. We are frequently a key partner in voluntarily delivering local maritime projects e.g. Fishing festivals, local history celebrations etc.

Aquatera routinely sponsors local causes e.g. RNLI, various young people’s clubs and societies, Boys Brigade, Sea Cadets, Amnesty International, MacMillan cancer support, higher education support, local festivals, sports clubs etc. ‘Sponsorship’ is on the agenda of every board meeting and annual budgets are allocated to local sponsorship and overseas sponsorship; the latter offsetting some of the work Aquatera undertakes around the world.

We are supportive of volunteering in general, allowing flexibility for staff to undertake various voluntary commitments e.g. From directorships of organisations such as Orkney Renewable Energy Forum, local housing association, art gallery, sailing club; to hands on work overseas in refugee camps, local sports coaching, Lifeboat crew etc. Aquatera values and recognises the importance of volunteering to individuals and sees the benefit to the company in terms of the vast amount of transferrable skills it brings to the workplace.
