John Thouless, BSc (Hons) MSc (Eng) CEng MIET
John joined Aquatera in April 2019 from DP Energy, an independent renewable energy developer, where he was Chief Operating Officer, responsible for managing a team of some 20 development professionals and a renewable energy project portfolio of over 1GW. Prior to this John was Head of Marine Development at SSE Renewables. John has been closely involved in the development of both marine energy technologies and projects, overseeing four development sites in Orkney waters and advising on investments in tidal and wave energy companies. He has been a director and chair of project special purpose vehicles. John has a background in power engineering, with experience in the development, and construction, of thermal energy plants including combined heat and power. He has over 15 years experience in renewable energy and more recently had project management responsibility for the world’s largest hybrid wind/solar PV development, a 375MW, circa £350m project, in South Australia.
At Aquatera, John is leading on the Replication & Exploitation work package for the ReFLEX project, a pioneering energy system of the future which looks to integrate power, transport and heat energy sectors and ensure they are powered by renewable energy sources.
