Aquatera's Participation in the Energy Transition Council's National Dialogue in the Philippines

December 15th 2025

Aquatera was pleased to take part in the 5th Energy Transition Council (ETC) Philippines National Dialogue.

This year’s theme, ‘Building on Progress’, brought together government, private sector, development organisations, and civil society to accelerate the Philippines’ shift to clean, sustainable energy.

Representing Aquatera, Marianne Eleanor Catanyag, Expert Consultant and Regional Manager for Southeast Asia, shared key insights from the Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) Stocktake Report, developed in collaboration with the Department of Energy’s Hydro and Ocean Energy Management Division (DOE HOEMD).

Her presentation highlighted the growing importance of emerging marine renewable energy technologies as the Philippines advances its offshore wind development, marine spatial planning, and broader clean energy strategies.

The dialogue reinforced several national priorities and opportunities, including:

  • lessons learned from clean energy initiatives

  • the growing role of carbon markets in accelerating decarbonisation

  • building stronger partnerships for a fair and inclusive energy transition

  • forward planning for 2026, particularly in the context of regional cooperation and ASEAN leadership

Aquatera looks forward to opportunities to continue working alongside the Philippine Department of Energy, Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETC) and private sector partners, contributing to the collective effort to shape a cleaner and more resilient energy pathway.

Distinguished representatives of the event’s convening organisations, Ambassador Sarah Hulton (British Embassy Manila), Director Michael Sinocruz (DOE), Floradema Eleazar (UNDP), Anna Dominique Ortiz (Energy Transition Partnership), and Atty Angela Ibay (WWF), delivered powerful messages underscoring their continued support for the Philippines’ energy transition.
