Aquatera to host a series of presentations at Floating Offshore Wind 2022

October 10th 2022

Join Aquatera at the Floating Offshore Wind conference in Aberdeen this week as directors host a series of briefings on Orkney’s renewable energy story, opportunities for Scapa Flow – the largest natural harbour in the northern hemisphere – to service the UK's offshore wind sector, and Aquatera’s expertise to support delivery.

Venue: P&J Live Aberdeen - Meeting Room 4 (upstairs from the main entrance atrium)
Date: Wednesday 12th October 2022

Background

Orkney and Scapa Flow lie at the centre of future offshore wind activity around Scotland, almost all Scotwind round 1 and INTOG lease areas lie within 150-200 NM.

Scapa Flow is the largest natural harbour in the northern hemisphere.  With water depths of between 25 - 50 m, 125 sq miles of swell and tidal free deep water, with existing harbours, world class marine services and supply chain which have served wartime fleets, oil & gas transhipment, pioneering wave and tidal activities and the worlds largest cruise liners.  It is now the ideal location for floating wind support and other deep-water operations.

The Scapa Flow Mega Wind Hub is a development project that is essential to transform UK capacity to deliver for Scotwind. A scalable, rapidly deliverable first phase project with capacity for up to 100 turbines per year.

It can ultimately build up to 14 km of deep water berthing and a 500 turbine a year capacity. The planning process for delivering the Mega Wind Hub has started, space is available, constraints are manageable, and support is building for the world’s biggest offshore wind support facility.

Hydrogen will be at the heart of this activity, as a product from offshore generation and as a fuel for the 100-vessel fleet that will support the operation.

Aquatera is using its decades of local and global activity to imagine, scope, plan and with others deliver this initiative.

To find out more about these plans; to discuss how they might support your development plans; or to offer your own support to these planned developments please engage in the programme.
