Aquatera is hiring a Senior Consultant to be our Project Manager delivering Aquatera’s remit as a partner in the Island Centre for Net Zero project (ICNZ), as well as working on other decarbonisation projects in Aquatera’s portfolio with connection to ICNZ.

The Island Centre for Net Zero is an exciting 10 year project that started in 2023 and will run until 2033. As part of the UK and Scottish Government funded Islands Growth Deal, the ICNZ will focus on how to accelerate decarbonisation across Orkney, Shetland and the Outer Hebrides, focusing on what makes sense for the local people and environment. It is being developed by an islands-based consortium, led by EMEC, and including Aquatera, Orkney Islands Council, Shetland Islands Council, Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar, Heriot-Watt University and Community Energy Scotland.

The role will involve leading Aquatera’s diverse expert project team; undertaking all project management tasks including planning, reporting, and budget management to keep our team working efficiently and creatively to deliver our ambitious programme; working closely with our six project partners; delivering Aquatera’s current remit within the project and developing new programmes to be developed through the life of the project. Key aspects of Aquatera’s current remit include establishing, populating and managing a DataExchange of island specific data relevant to decarbonisation and energy transition, and developing carbon calculation and baselining tools. In the year ahead Aquatera will be aiming to develop new areas of work for the project and you will be involved in developing and delivering these ideas. Applicants do not need to have experience in data management, but it would be an advantage.

Overview

  • Full time
  • Location – Aquatera is based in Orkney and the ICNZ project spans Orkney, Shetland and the Outer Hebrides. Applicant based in one of these locations would be preferred. Office based in Orkney, remote working in Shetland or the Outer Hebrides, hybrid working or access to shared office space in other locations where available.
  • Salary – competitive salary based on experience 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Senior Consultant or Project Manager

Requirements

  • Masters degree (or equivalent) in environmental science, renewable energy or another relevant science or technical subject
  • Minimum of 5 years as Senior Consultant of Project Manager or experience in relevant roles  
  • Excellent written communication and reporting skills  
  • Budget management
  • Project team management

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage: 

  • Development and delivery of decarbonisation and/or renewable projects
  • Carbon assessment including decarbonisation planning and analysis
  • Development and delivery of data services and data management
  • Renewable energy project support including energy system development
  • Project management on multi-partner projects and/or grant funded projects
  • Budget management for grant funded projects
